Kung fu lessons taught live with Ollie Smith

Currently classes are suspended due to the Corona Virus pandemic, they will start up again as soon as it is safe to do so.

These kung fu classes are located in Bath and would suit people with a keen interest in traditional kung fu. There is an emphasis on upgrading one's skill rather than on gradings and tests, so you will not find a belt reward system. We do expect people to buy the school t-shirt and not to wear the clothes or uniform of another martial art club when attending.

Kung fu styles taught are Hebei Xingyi, Gao Bagua, and parts of the Chen Pan Ling Taiji form. All of the kung fu syles are taught over one month. We also focus some of the time in lesson to fighting application (optional) and will wear fighting gear such as gloves, head guards and body armour. The kung fu sparring is reasonably light and usually has an experimental approach to testing some of the more traditional aspects of fighting techniques.

Whilst we'd like to keep the lessons open to everyone it is best that you are reasonably fit and flexible with a degree of good coordination. If this is not the case then you can arrange for some 1 on 1 kung fu tuition. The 1 on 1 kung fu lessons will teach you everything you need to get up to speed and ready for the group class, I recommend that you set aside 5 sessions at £35 per hour, bookable from 2 hours minimum.

During the lessons you will learn the traditional training methods found in Gao style Bagua and Hebei Xingyi. You might also be taught some of the famous Chen Pan Ling Taiji form (not all at the same time), these three kung fu styles originated in mainland China and were taken to Taiwan where Ollie Smith learnt the Yizong line of Baguazhang, Xingyiquan and Taijiquan.

Bagua takes priority in the lessons, this is due to the amount of content and complexity of the kung fu, Xingyi would be next and then Taiji. A complete system of Baguazhang and Xingyiquan are taught along with elements of Taijiquan thrown into the mix.

If you are interested in trying one lesson for free please contact me to arrange attendance. The class is not visible from the street so you have to arrange joining in by email.

These kung fu lessons are a great benefit to people looking to keep fit without having to go to a gym. You'll learn lots of traditional exercises that help with health of your mind and body. You can improve your coordination and lower your stress levels. Internal kung fu will help you to discover more about achieving a better structure when moving and striking. Though not only can you focus on the more martial aspects we can also learn about meditation whilst practising, which is an important part of our training.
